Browsing the public site

The public pages carry no sign-up, contact or entry forms. We do not ask browsing visitors for a name, email address, phone number, identity number or institution, and nothing you read here is stored against you.

Participant accounts

People taking part in a hackathon may create a participant account to reach bootcamp joining links, session resources and the team board. That account stores your email address, the name you enter, and optionally your town, preferred track and skills, together with your team, your join requests and the date you agreed to this notice. We do not ask for an identity number, a date of birth or any financial detail.

Other signed-in participants in the same hackathon can see your name, town, preferred track and skills on the team board, and the lead of a team you ask to join can see the message you send them. None of this appears on the public site or in search results, and we never sell or advertise against it. The Hub and the hackathon's funder use it only to run and report on the hackathon, under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

You can change or remove these details yourself at any time under "My details" in the participant hub. Deleting your account removes your profile, your team membership and your join requests, and closes the login. Accounts and their contents are deleted within twelve months of the hackathon ending unless you ask us to do it sooner.

Hackathon registration

Registration for a hackathon happens on an external form hosted by Google Forms and linked from that hackathon's Register page. Anything you enter there is handled by the Hub and the hackathon's funder for the purposes of running and reporting on that hackathon, under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Google's own privacy terms apply to the form itself.

Hosting and technical logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard technical request logs, which can include an IP address and browser type, to serve pages and protect the site against abuse. We do not use these logs to identify visitors, and we run no advertising or cross-site tracking.

Cookies

The public pages of this site set no advertising or analytics cookies. Sign-in storage is used only when a participant or a member of Hub staff signs in, to keep that session open.

Your rights and contact

To ask what information the Hub holds about you as a hackathon participant, or to have it corrected or deleted, email info@thecortexhub.africa. We will respond within a reasonable period, as POPIA requires.
